Checks and Cleans
A dental check-up and clean doesn't just check the condition of your teeth but also the condition of the gums, tongue, cheeks and jaw. Check and cleans help detect and prevent dental health problems such as gingivitis, gum disease, and oral cancer.

Composite Fillings
Dental fillings are used to replace natural tooth structure when it becomes fractured, broken or damaged. At Cooktown Dental we only place composite restorations (white fillings), not amalgam restorations due to the environmental impact.

Crowns and Veneers
Veneers and crowns are both indirect dental restoration methods that can improve the look and function of your teeth. A crown covers the entirety of a tooth, it acts like a helmet spreading the force of chewing across the whole tooth and can help prevent fractured or heavily restored teeth from cracking. A veneers covers only the front of a tooth, thereby changing the shape, size and/or colour of the tooth.

Root Canals
A root canal treatment is one of two options once a tooth has become infected (the alternative being extraction). When bacteria get into the dental pulp they start to multiply, leading to an infection/abscess. The goal of a root canal is to remove all bacteria from the inside of the tooth and then seal the space. After root canal treatment, teeth are typically crowned due to the large amount of tooth structure missing prior to commencing treatment and their risk of tooth fracture.

Extractions
When a tooth is no longer saveable extraction may be required. This is always considered a last resort as there is no true replacement for a missing tooth. Replacement options after extractions include: dentures, bridges and implants. At this time we are unable to provide implant services.
